Insertion Loss and Link Loss Testing

Paired with a RIFOCS 555B or 557B optical power

meter, the 255A serves as an ideal 1300nm LED

source for testing the insertion loss of multimode and

single-mode fiber optic cables and connectors. The

255A can also be used with an optical power meter

for link loss testing of installed cable plants.

With a calibrated launch optimized for 62.5/125µm

graded-index multimode fiber, the 255A LED source

is particularly useful for testing and maintaining local

area networks (LANs), premises networks, fiber dis-

tributed data interfaces (FDDI), and some telecom-

munications systems. The 255A may also be used for

other multimode and single-mode fiber types.

The 255A LED source is fitted with a precision

Universal Connector Interface (UCI), which ensures

maximum accuracy and repeatability when perform-

ing critical measurements on fiber optic systems. A

comprehensive range of UCI adapters is available for

all industry standard fiber optic connectors.

In addition, controlled launch condition versions of the

255A are available to meet the demanding require-

ments of military, aerospace, shipboard, and trans-
